All aboard for a railway adventure where the driver is a cat and the tracks don’t always go where you’d expect. Railroad Swap puts players in charge of helping Mat, an adorable train-driving feline, navigate a series of clever puzzles using limited track pieces and some rather unusual board-swapping tricks.

Published and developed by Afil Games, this bite-sized puzzler is out now on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One and PC, with each version priced at £4.19.

All Tracks Lead To A Solution

Very much unlike the simulation affairs of the Train Sim World series, Mat’s journey takes place on a hexagonal grid, where players must select, rotate and reposition track pieces to create a route to the finish. There’s a catch: the available pieces aren’t enough to build the complete railway in the usual way, so you’ll need to find another solution.

That’s where the swap tiles come in. These special spaces let you assign colours to tracks or empty spaces, and when the train rolls over them, their positions switch. The resulting changes can open up new routes, meaning you’ll need to think ahead rather than simply lay down a line of track and hope for the best.

30 Puzzles Across Three Brazilian Biomes

Railroad Swap features 30 levels spread across three biomes inspired by the landscapes of Minas Gerais in Brazil. Each presents a compact strategic challenge, with limited tracks and colours making every decision count.

You can use hints when a solution proves elusive or restart a level to try a different approach. The real trick is anticipating how each swap will change the board once Mat’s train passes through, turning route planning into a satisfying exercise in timing and logic.

Railroad Swap is available now, fully optimised for Xbox Series X|S, playable on Xbox One and set for Windows PC. Each version will set you back £4.19.

If you fancy a puzzle game with a feline conductor and railway problems that require more than a few extra tracks, Mat is ready to depart.
