Lily’s World XD – Story Explained

Welcome to Into Indie Games’ story explainer for Lily’s World XD.

Lily’s World XD is a puzzle game that takes place entirely on a laptop you found in a dumpster. As you go through the files of the previous owner, you start to piece together the mystery of Lily’s sudden disappearance. With her best friend Iris working alongside you, you go down a rabbit hole, uncovering disturbing secrets, hidden messages, and exposing an organization called the Radiant Path.

This article will provide the complete storyline of Lily’s World XD.

It begins with a Laptop

The game’s story begins with you, the player, finding a laptop in a dumpster. You can log in to the profile pretty easily. The password hint is the favorite animal of the previous owner, and you can see a girl holding a cat in the background, so it’s pretty straightforward. 

As you get to the desktop, you notice that the previous user hasn’t really deleted anything. There’s a bunch of their old stuff you can go through. 

Some of the folders are locked with passwords, but the email and the web browser are fully accessible. Your curiosity gets the best of you, and you start to investigate. 

You find a few photos of Lily, aka the previous owner,  and can also see her personal journal saved on the computer. But the weirdness starts when you play the dress-up game from the web browser. 

It’s a simple mini-game where you have to dress up a girl, but when you click on certain outfits, the screen begins to glitch, and it’s almost like Lily is trying to talk to you through the screen. 

You shake it off as a one-off glitch and continue snooping around. You come across an organization called The Radiant Path that can presumably help you become “a better you”.

When you check the Messenger, you find a user named Irislovesdogs online. So naturally, you send a text asking if she knows the owner of this laptop. 

“Is this some sick joke?” she responds quickly. After that, nothing.

You return to messing around with the laptop. Through some clever deduction, you are able to access Lily’s “Palster” account (this game’s version of Myspace), where you catch a glimpse of her friends. It turns out that Iris is her best friend and Alex is her boyfriend.

What really catches your eye, though, is a URL shared by Iris, which leads to a secret chat between her and Lily.

Just as you’re going through the chat log, Iris responds to you in the Messenger app. She’s more demanding this time and wants to know who you are. She seems unnecessarily hostile towards you at first, but eventually warms up when you mention that you want to help find Lily. 

At this point, things get weird again. The computer starts asking you how you found the laptop. Eventually, your webcam turns on, and the game snaps a picture of you. 

Investigating Lily’s Disappearance

You start talking to Iris, and things begin to unravel. She doesn’t hold anything back and tells you all she knows about her best friend, such as how she suddenly up and disappeared one day and how she thinks the Radiant Path is behind Lily’s disappearance.

You and Iris do some digging online and find an archived post from Lily’s Blog. You also find her post on an online forum asking people to rate her looks. It seems that she was always struggling with insecurity. 

While investigating the Radiant Path’s online forum, you come across someone named Melanie Green, who left the organization on her own. This is a new lead for you and Iris! 

Iris sends Melanie an email and gets a quick response. She points you to a phone number, which leads you to a certain “Hope Therapy Center”. Iris notices that Lily’s mother, Mei Han, is a member of the Therapy Center. 

At this point, you lose control of your computer once again. A text pops up on your desktop from the Radiant Path, asking or rather, threatening you to stay away from Iris. You’re also forced to take part in their quiz, at the end of which you see another disturbing photo of Lily(?). 

As you dig further into The Radiant Path, things start to get stranger. You find a secret message in the archived post from Lily’s Blog, but then you are forced to play the Maze Game as someone (possibly The Radiant Path?) tries to hack your computer to transfer unknown files. Luckily, the transfer fails midway. 

By now, both you and Iris know that the Radiant Path is not going to go down without a fight, and there’s definitely something sinister going on. Your search leads you to Oberon Plastic Surgery, and eventually you manage to learn the name of the organization’s “Divine Leader” – Evelyn Tan. 

As you’re checking out Evelyn Tan’s social media, you get pulled into a mini-game called The Radiant Journey. After this, you receive an invite to go on The Radiant Retreat. 

You put on your detective hat once again and learn all you can about the organization. As you access the final password-locked folder on your computer, you find another secret message left by Lily. It’s two words only: Black Light. 

Your computer glitches out again, and you get a threat directly from the Radiant Path. But this time, they also threaten Iris through a mini-game sent to your computer. 

Iris, understandably, is scared of what’s happening. But for Lily, she’s willing to take the risk, and you can’t back away either. 

You manage to hack into the Members’ Area of the Radiant Path using a certain Dr. Felix Whitmore’s credentials. But as soon as you do that, your session gets terminated, and the computer gets reset. All you can do is just watch it happen.

Luckily, Iris manages to get in a few words and tells you to join a secret chat and note down the room code before the PC resets. 

Uncovering the Truth 

When you log back into the computer, most of Lily’s things have been deleted. All that’s left is a single folder containing some images and websites that were flagged through the Web Watch program. 

You find Iris waiting for you in the Secret Chat. As the two of you plan out your next move, another user enters the chat. The username – Lily2. 

You understand it as a cheap trick to confuse Iris, and it works. Iris doesn’t know who to trust. She sends a picture of Lily’s Letter under the blacklight to reveal a website and her login details, but after this she kicks you off the secret chat. With no one else to back you up, you have to go the rest of the way on your own. 

You manage to log in to the Radiant Path’s members area after finding Lily’s Credentials. From the Incident Report, you gain access to a secured folder containing Lily’s pictures, a voice recording, and two pages of the report. 

Lily was forced into a Rhinoplasty surgery during her time on the Radiant Retreat. She tried to run away later, but got caught and received disciplinary action. After that, her nose began to bleed severely, which ultimately led to her death. 

What’s worse is that the Radiant Path kept the incident hidden even from her mother. But with the evidence right at your fingertips, you share the news with the Member Area, revealing the truth of the Radiant Path once and for all. 

You then see a short video made by Iris commemorating her late friend. 

A Bittersweet Goodbye

It’s been a year since you exposed The Radiant Path for what they are. You receive an email from Iris inviting you to her very first art show. Despite what happened, she’s doing well and has made peace with losing her friend. 

You check the attachment in the email to find a hauntingly beautiful painting of Lily. Instead of wallowing in sorrow, Iris chose to immortalize Lily through her art. That’s the best way for her to remember her friend. 

You have another email in your inbox from the Crawford Police Department. They want to interview you regarding the investigation into the Radiant Path. With that, you shut down your computer and say farewell to Lily’s little world.
