Amazon Games and Crystal Dynamics have released the eighth Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis developer diary, this time focusing on the Greece level and its reworked Sword of Damocles puzzle. The action-adventure reimagining of Lara Croft’s 1996 debut launches for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC via Steam on February 12, 2027.
The Greece section was previously shown to press behind closed doors at Gamescom. Like other areas in Legacy of Atlantis, it builds on the original Tomb Raider version of the location while expanding its environments, puzzles, and story details.
Game Director Raul Sequeira explained that the team is giving each location its own visual and puzzle identity. Greece draws heavily from Greek mythology and architecture, with environments ranging from caves, cliffs, and waterfalls to large acropolises and domed structures. Sequeira contrasted that approach with areas such as Peru, which rely on a different mix of architecture and natural terrain.
Design Director Jason Epps also discussed how the team approached Greece as a hidden Grecian city that Lara is entering for the first time. One of the returning challenges is the Sword of Damocles puzzle, a recognizable section from the original game that has been reworked for Legacy of Atlantis.
The Greece level also introduces timed sections that require Lara to cross certain areas before time runs out. Epps said the developers still want to retain the quieter exploration of the original Tomb Raider, while using these faster sequences to break up the pacing with more frantic moments.
The episode continues a series of developer diaries examining how Crystal Dynamics and Flying Wild Hog are rebuilding Lara’s first adventure. The previous video focused on Jacqueline Natla and actor Adriene Wilkinson’s portrayal of the longtime Tomb Raider antagonist. Earlier episodes have covered combat and progression, Lara’s movement and traversal, puzzles and traps, Peru, creatures, and Lara’s redesign.
We also recently went hands-on with Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis during Summer Game Fest 2026. Our preview found that the revised controls retained the deliberate platforming of the original while making Lara’s movement smoother and more responsive.
