Nintendo Direct: Professor Layton and the New World of Steam Gets a December

We’ve been talking about Professor Layton and the New World of Steam since 2023, believe it or not. Level-5’s puzzle/adventure game series has been MIA for quite some time even before New World of Steam was announced, with the last entry technically being the spin-off game Layton’s Mystery Journey: Katrielle and the Millionaires’ Conspiracy, which was ported to Switch in 2019 but technically came out as a 3DS game back in 2017. Level-5 has had a shaky go of things in recent years, which likely hasn’t helped matters, but after many moons, New World of Steam finally has a proper release date: December 10, 2026. Take a look:

This marks the first time that a mainline Layton game has featured the dynamic duo of Professor Hershel Layton and Luke Triton since 2014’s Professor Layton and the Azran Legacy on Nintendo 3DS. New World of Steam gets underway after Layton receives a letter from Luke asking him to come to Steam Bison, a rapidly growing American town “plagued by mysterious incidents.” Expect the usual blend of narrative and puzzle solving that the series was once loved for in this, hopefully, return to form for the franchise.
